SUMMARY:Pinkster 2026
DESCRIPTION:Pinkster is the earliest documented African American holiday
 — a Pentecost-season festival rooted in the Hudson Valley (Albany\, NY) a
nd Dutch-colonial New Jersey from the 17th–19th centuries. Enslaved and f
ree Africans transformed the Dutch Pinksteren into a multi-day African Am
erican celebration of reunion\, ancestral memory\, music led by the Guine
a drum\, the election of the Pinkster King (most famously King Charles of
Pinkster Hill)\, and intergenerational kinship. Suppressed in 1811\, rev
ived in Albany in 2011\, and increasingly observed across the diaspora on
  the Pentecost weekend.\nRegion: United States\, African American\nSource
